Simply put, Affiliate Marketing is one of the most common forms of making money on the internet.

Affiliate marketing was set in place by larger corporations and websites who realize that marketing smarter is better than marketing smarter. Affiliate marketing allows them to enable their very own customers and other hopefuls sell the companies products, while at the same time make money for themselves.

Almost all Affiliate marketing programs will work as following:

1. You sell a product, you get a commission. A commission is the percentage of the total cost of the product that YOU recieve. (Your profit for being an affiliate)

2. Some affiliate marketing programs will pay you for sending them quality "leads". A lead is usually considered a visitor that will either sign up for a service or purchase a product. FriendFinder is a good affiliate program to start if you are looking at this type of commission.

In the past, to make money with affiliate marketing programs, all you had to do was pay for PPC traffic and send it to your affiliate link. However, Google and Yahoo and a few others soon caught on, and as such you now almost have to have your own website.

The key ingredient to success with Affiliate marketing is to "pre-sell" your customer. Give them more information and more services from you than they need or want, just bombard them with useful information and facts. Before you know it, your conversion rate will skyrocket. That is the beauty of affiliate programs, the conversion rate is so easy to manipulate.

When dealing with these affiliate marketing programs, always make sure you try to get a program with lifetime commissions. With lifetime commissions enabled in your affiliate program, any customer you refer that returns to the site later and purchases something else will count as a sale for you!

Don't be fooled if people try to tell you that affiliate marketing is dead or dying. The reason they say this is because it takes a lot of time. If you don't have at minimum 3 months to dedicate to link building and content building, then affiliate marketing is the wrong business for you.
